We are Together Culture: Meet Vicky
Member since January 2024
Together Culture is growing a community of outrageously curious, open-minded and creative members who care for each other and want to build a more inclusive and ecological Cambridge. Today we’re introducing you to Vicky, a writer and musician. You can listen to their music here, and read their blog here.
Why did you become a member?
The space captivated me from first glance, and after initial conversations I learnt Together Culture is very similar to what I want to do myself. Every time I visited I was left with such inspiration and a deep spiritual satisfaction. It's hard to describe the feeling without experiencing it, but it leaves you wanting more.
What (if anything) has exceeded your expectations about Together Culture?
How friendly everybody is has surprised me. Meeting new people as an extremely anxious person is always daunting, but each new person I've encountered always says hi to me. Everybody is on the same level so there's no feelings of hierarchy, and lengthy conversations can spark from the smallest of things. It also makes me feel extremely validated in what I do and hope to achieve.
How has being a member of Together Culture impacted your wellbeing, if at all?
I always look forward to returning as I feel like it's where I belong, and everyone there are my people. We're gathered for a cause we all feel passionate about, but are also creatives with projects and ideas constantly flowing from us. It's a space to learn, grow, create, connect and communicate.
What would you tell someone who is interested in joining Together Culture?
Just pop in! The space caught my eye, I enquired inside and now I'm there at least once a month. I cannot stress how super lovely everybody is, and everybody is working to or from the same cause. If you're a creative, it's the perfect place to meet and connect with like-minded people.
What is your work / passion and how do you hope to use that at Together Culture?
I'm a writer, and have been for what feels like my entire life. Monthly sessions with Kate Rhodes called 'Turn Up and Write' have been teaching me new things, lets me share my ideas to get a variety of feedback, and provides a specific time to write and brainstorm. It's a great excuse to meet with people I've come to recognise and love too.
How do you hope the Together Culture membership can change Cambridge?
To change it for the better. To be more sustainable, inclusive and creative. Adding more colour, support and smiles. To reflect the inside of Together Culture into the wider city.
Community Membership is £18.50 a month; become a member here. Email ellie@togetherculture.com to find out about Pay What You Can membership.
