Meet Our Members: Emma Lacy

Together Culture is growing a community of outrageously curious, open-minded and creative members who care for each other and want to build a more inclusive and ecological Cambridge. Today, we’re introducing you to Emma, Director of Earth & Mind.

Why did you become a member?

I had heard about Together Culture through several friends and colleagues and was excited when I learned how many shared values we had between Earth & Mind and Together Culture. When I was looking for a space that I could work in and meet with potential partners and change makers within the community, Together Culture sprung to mind. I also loved the idea of being in a space with like-minded individuals who want to make a positive impact in the community.

Tell us a bit about what you do

Through my lived experience of gardening improving my own mental health, I started Earth & Mind. Our primary focus is to create nature-based activities that support people's wellbeing. But, underpinning this is a vision to plant the seeds of change that can protect our natural environment. I like to think of it as Cultural Activism.

Tell us a bit about what you're working on at Together Culture

I'm currently working on starting several new activities in Cambridge, foraging and habitat creation. Our project at Cambridge Access Surgery on Newmarket Road is up and running and supporting the homeless community with their wellbeing through woodwork and gardening. We’re also building partnerships with Cambridge Sustainable Food, Cambridgeshire County Council, and On the Verge.

One of Earth & Mind’s outreach sessions at Winter Comfort where the group made their own herb planters for their window sills.

Your favourite things about the space

Every time I come to the space I either have a very productive conversation with other members, or there's someone to offer a helping hand. It's so wonderful to be around such kind and creative people who want to get involved. Also, I can get a lot more done than when I’m at home.

Your creative superpower

I have ADHD, so I'm a Jack of all Trades, I know a little bit about a lot, and I'm a problem solver. It means I can think on my feet when things go awry.

Your hope for Cambridge

I hope for a happy community that is inclusive of every being and works together to protect our natural environment.
